St. Elmo Steak House is a historic and quaint Indiana restaurant that’s been around since 1902. It has remained in its current location ever since. This is one of the oldest restaurants in Indiana and does its best to preserve its old-fashioned style and ambiance. Throughout the years, this has been the place where politicians and tycoons negotiated their dealings, coaches, and players of sports teams celebrated their victories and washed away their defeats, and celebrities came to dine in style. 

This old building is instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up in Indianapolis. When the Circle Center Mall opened nearby in 1996, the restaurant did a multi-million dollar makeover but kept most of the old-style charm.

The shrimp cocktail is almost as famous as the steaks. It has four jumbo shrimp with an original, house-made spicy cocktail sauce and slices of fresh lemon. This appetizer is a beloved local favorite.

Harry Roth and Isadore Rosen ran this steak house from 1947 to 1986 before passing it on to current owner Stephen Huse.
